It has been observed that there is an unusual tendency in this lineup to have all the women authors' stories first, followed by the men authors, and honest, I didn't plan it that way, it just seems to be the best order for the stories themselves... :-)

Bibliophile Stalker Review - CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 2

The tireless and marvelous Charles Tan ([info]chartlesatan) reviews over at Bibliophile Stalker the fantasy anthology Clockwork Phoenix 2 edited by Mike Allen ([info]time_shark)

"One of the problems with establishing a new anthology series is developing a brand identity. I enjoyed the first Clockwork Phoenix so the question that constantly nagged me is whether the sequel is up to the task. In a certain way, I was setting myself up for disappointment: Clockwork Phoenix 2 is a very different animal from the first and hopefully that's a good thing. There's a lot more willingness here to try and experiment with different modes of storytelling, making each story stand out as it's very different from the one that preceded it. It features a diverse set of styles and techniques while never sacrificing readability...."

New from Norilana - CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norilana Books proudly presents Clockwork Phoenix 2: More Tales of Beauty and Strangeness edited by Mike Allen ([info]time_shark).

Story marries style. The result is a cornucopia of modern cutting-edge fantasy.

The second volume of this extraordinary new annual anthology series of fantastic literature dares to surpass the first, with works that sidestep expectations in beautiful and unsettling ways, that surprise with their settings and startle with the manner in which they cross genre boundaries, that aren't afraid to experiment with storytelling techniques, and yet seamlessly blend form with meaningful function.

Clockwork Phoenix 2: More Tales of Beauty and Strangeness edited by Mike Allen

"Allen finds his groove for this second annual anthology of weird stories, selecting 16 wonderfully evocative, well-written tales... Each story fits neatly alongside the next, and the diversity of topics, perspectives and authors makes this cosmopolitan anthology a winner."

Locus Review - LACE AND BLADE 2

Rich Horton reviews Lace and Blade 2 in the March issue of Locus.

"... But the book is well worth it for the high points, particularly the last two pieces. Tanith Lee's "Comfort and Despair" is a sly portrait of an apparently mismatched marriage enlivened by certain secrets, and Madeleine E. Robins's "Writ of Exception" is an unexpectedly romantic, yet practical, story about two women forced into marriage -- to each other -- by dynastic needs, and how they navigate the strictures of their culture.
